Ignore the Criticism
Ignore the Criticism - For one reason or another I haven't been out with the camera for over 2 weeks so yesterday I was keen to get out.
The weather wasn't perfect but I was keen to get back into the swing of things. With the pressure off it was an opportunity to experiment, to try different techniques and compositions.
Since going full-time I have had to deal with my fair share of criticism, people saying that I am not good enough to be a professional photographer.
I understand that this is part of the game but I will never understand what a photographer would ever hope to gain from criticising another.
For me the biggest problem with criticism is that it makes me naturally want to play it safe. I believe that this is the worst thing that we can do as photographers.
Without the confidence to try new things and to push beyond our limits we cannot hope to grow as photographers. Criticism kills creativity.
If you find yourself having to face criticism try to ignore it. I know it is hard but it is an important lesson for us all to learn.
